CHILI POWDER
1 Tsp. Paprika
2 Tsp. Cumin
1 Tsp. Chile Powder (ground up dried chiles...you can find it in the Mexican food section)
1 Tsp. Oregano
2 Tsp. Onion Powder
I usually double or triple the recipe to make sure I have plenty of it on hand (you'd be surprised how many recipes call for chili powder...you'll also need it to make taco seasoning and other spice mixes).
Enjoy!
I am so happy to find this blog...my husband is very allergic to garlic.
ReplyDeleteI have been looking for a good chili powder recipe with no garlic powder in it. Now I can make it!

DeleteIf your husband is allergic to garlic, he may be allergic or have food sensitivity to onions as well. Onions and garlic are related. Both are succulents that soak up anything sprayed on them or the soil where they grew in. So is it the plant or the chemicals they use on them that is causing the allergy problem? I have your husband’s problem. I use the recipe above but I leave the onion out and I use mild Poblano chilies. After a Poblano chili pod has been dried it is called ancho or chili ancho and can be bought as dried pods or as dried, ground up, roasted pure ancho chili powder. It serves as the base for commercial chili powder which, of course, contains garlic.
Very cool. For spiritual reasons I do not eat garlic or onions. I had found substitutions for garlic and onions but never could find a recipe for non-garlic chili powder. I used asafetida instead of onion powder. Thank you very much.
ReplyDeletehow much asafetida do you use? thanks
DeleteI've read asafetida powder can cause reproductive system problems in women so I'm afraid to try it.
